The History of
The Quick Reaction Alert
The Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) is on standby 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
In the UK, currently we have Typhoon fighter jets on standby, fully armed and fully fuelled.
There are two QRA Stations, North and South, North at RAF Lossiemouth and
outh at RAF Coningsby.
In the “Q Shed” pilots will be on a 24 hour shift, dressed in most of their flying gear, ready to run to the QRA Hangars next door.
But the QRA is not new, it was first introduced after WW2 to combat the threat from Russian bombers entering British airspace to potentially deliver nuclear weapons on the United Kingdom.
This talk explores the roles and bravery of the men and women who have worked with the QRA.
A new talk for Summer 2025.
